| A retired pharmacist and one-time owner of the Broadway Drug Store, Garland "Woody" Beale returned to the Broadway Town Board in 2007 after a lengthy tenure as commissioner from 1961 to 1993. He brings an extensive record of public service to his current post, having served as a member of the Broadway Planning Board (2001 to present), Broadway Centennial Committee (2007), Lee County Enrichment Center Advisory Board (2001 to present) and the Broadway Lions Club for more than four decades.
Beale is a member and elder of Broadway Presbyterian Church. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is married to the former Ann Freeman. The couple has two daughters, Stephanie Beale Excoffier and Julie Beale.
