| The state's senior senator, Richard Burr was sworn into office in January 2005. Among his legislative priorities are promoting economic growth, enhancing national resources and improving education.
Sen. Burr is a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School and Wake Forest University, both in Winston-Salem. After spending 17 years with Carswell Distributing, a wholesale commercial products company, he entered public service and was elected in 1994 to the United States House of Representatives. He also currently serves on the board of the Brenner Children's Hospital.
