| Now serving his first term on the Sanford City Council, L.I. "Poly" Cohen is owner and retired CEO of Lee Iron & Metal Co. in Sanford, where he continues to work as a consultant. Before rising to lead the local metal recycling company, Cohen served as vice president from 1959 to 1973 and worked earlier as a facility manager for Owen Steel Co. in Lexington, S.C.
During his long tenure in Sanford, Cohen has been involved in public service, being particularly influential in guiding the Stevens Center, Lee County Group Home, SECU Family House and Capital Bank.
A native of Augusta, Ga., Cohen is a 1959 graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He enjoys college sports, watching movies and spending time with his family, which includes his wife, Sara Swartz Cohen, as well as three children and four grandchildren.
