| The sixth county manager in Lee County history, John Crumpton was appointed in the spring of 2007. Prior to accepting the position in Lee County, Crumpton served as county manager of Scotland County in southeastern North Carolina.
Crumpton received his B.S. in public administration from Indiana University, a bachelor's degree in business administration from Georgia State University and the Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
He returns to Lee County after serving as finance director in 1992 and 1993 under then-manager Bill Cowan. During his career, Crumpton also served as marketing representative for the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners and manager for the North Carolina towns of Morrisville, Emerald Isle and Elizabethtown.
