Raised in Johnston County, Rep. Bob Etheridge has made his home in Harnett County for almost four decades, serving as a small businessman, part-time tobacco farmer and full-time public servant. Since taking the oath of office for the first time in January 1996, he has provided leadership on a range of issues including education, agriculture and homeland security.

His involvement with education began long before being elected to Congress. He worked on education issues as a Harnett County commissioner, in the North Carolina General Assembly and for eight years as North Carolina's State Superintendent of Schools.

Rep. Etheridge earned his B.S. in Business Administration from Campbell University in Buies Creek (1965) and served two years in the U.S. Army. He and his wife, Faye Cameron Etheridge, are active in their church and both teach Sunday School.
