| Hal Hegwer, who spent 12 years earlier as a city engineer in Sanford, returned to the Lee County community when he was named its city manager in 2007.
Hegwer began his career in government as an engineer with the City of Sanford in November 1991 and continued in that position until April 2004, when he left to become city manager for the Town of Spring Lake. A native of Laurinburg, he received his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Master of Public Administration from North Carolina State University.
The city manager and his wife, Angie, reside in Sanford with their two young daughters, Caroline Gray and Carly Ryane.
