A Lee County resident for more than 50 years, Jerry Lemmond was first elected in 2000 to his at-large seat on the Lee County Board of Commissioners. His legislative interests include encouraging sound fiscal responsibility by the state, enhancing economic development and solving difficulties faced by local farmers.

He serves on a number of local committees and boards, including those serving the Lee County Partnership for Children, Johnston-Lee-Harnett Community Action, Lee County Juvenile Crime Prevention, the Lee County Volunteer Fire Department and the Lee County Rescue Squad.

Lemmond has a longstanding interest in emergency services, having served as assistant chief of the Tramway Fire Department and, for decades, as a member of the Lee County Rescue Squad. In 1971, he received the 1st U.S. Army Accommodation Award for Lifesaving at Sea, for saving two men in trouble near Virginia Beach.

The Sanford Central High School graduate remains involved in St. Luke United Methodist Church and Sanford Moose Lodge 386. He has three daughters — Denise Smith, April Bolick and Courtney Lemmond — and three grandchildren.
