STOCK BUILDING SUPPLY BUYS LOCATION FOR
DISTRIBUTION AND MANUFACTURING IN SANFORD

SANFORD -- Stock Building Supply, a leading supplier of materials to home builders and contractors, has purchased the former Redman Building in Sanford and plans to use its new facility for manufacturing and distribution.

Bob Heuts, director of the Lee County Economic Development Corp., said the 125,000-square foot building off Harvey Faulk Road changed hands in mid-February for $2.35 million.

Stock plans to operate the facility as Sanford Truss and Panel, where it will manufacture and distribute roof trusses, wall panels and lumber. It already operates Stock Commercial and Architectural Window Division on Industrial Drive in Sanford.

The Raleigh-based company posted sales of $5.3 billion in its 2006 fiscal year and operates more than 310 locations in 34 states -- with more than 20 within 50 miles of Sanford.

Stock Building Supply is subsidiary of Wolseley, a corporation with headquarters in Reading, England, that currently employs about 79,000 people in 27 countries. According to its corporate Web site, Wolseley is the world's leading distributor of heating and plumbing products for the professional market.

Heuts was pleased with the company's additional investment in Sanford.

"This should be an exceptional location for Stock," said Heuts. "It's near their Raleigh office, we're in a growing area and the building offers everything they need. Plus, the company has already had success in Sanford.

"We're glad to have them here."

The Lee County Economic Development Corp. is a nonprofit organization established to attract industry, enhance job opportunities and promote sound planning across Lee County. Funding is provided by the county, as well as the City of Sanford and Town of Broadway, the county's two municipalities.
