Also re-elected to a second one-year term were vice president Judi Marsh of Chicago Old Telephone, secretary Jimmy Keen of BB&T, treasurer Bill Horner III of "The Sanford Herald" and past president Poly Cohen of Lee Iron and Metal. Horner and Cohen also were appointed to the board of directors, along with Harvey Forbes of Forbes Real Estate and Bill Manning of Static Control Components. Daniel served on the board of directors before serving his first term as president of the committee supporting economic development across Lee County. His primary goal in the new term, he said, is to make the business community and general public aware of the committee and its activities -- including projects designed to enhance the kind of positive economic growth everyone wants. He also plans to bring more educational programs to Sanford as one way to enhance the business climate and give valuable services back to committee members. One example, Daniel said, was a negotiation workshop held immediately following the committee's breakfast meeting. Offered by nationally-renowned speaker Gary Tharp, "Negotiating Magic" was the same workshop Tharp has provided to Fortune 500 executives across the United States and Canada. "Programs like the one this morning offer real-world solutions that our members can use in their everyday business," Daniel said. "When we provide this kind of opportunity, our members will realize that the committee is more than just paying dues. Our role is critical to the success of our community." The Committee of 100 is an organization of business men and women committing time, energy and resources to enhance the economic well-being of Lee County and its citizens. Corporate and individual members assist the Lee County Economic Development Corp. by establishing venture capital projects to expand local industry, helping to promote economic growth and enhancing working relationships among government, business and the community. -- 30 --
