SANFORD, N.C. With several recent appointments, the Lee County Economic Development Corp. advisory board has been installed for the current fiscal year.
Eight of the 12 board members are appointed by elected officials and represent local governments in Lee County, Sanford or Broadway. Four others serve in their executive positions, representing Central Carolina Community College, the Lee County Committee of 100, Lee County Schools or the North Carolina General Assembly.
Board members serve as liaisons between the Lee County Economic Development Corp. and the organizations they represent and are charged with developing policy to attract industry, enhance local job opportunities and promote sound planning throughout the county.
This year's board is led by Chairman Tommy Mann Jr., who represents Lee County and whose current term ends in 2011.
Other board officers, with the organizations they represent and the end of their current terms, are: Chairman Elect John Daniel III, Lee County Committee of 100, serving as president of the organization; Vice Chair O.A. "Buddy" Keller III, City of Sanford, 2012; and Secretary/Treasurer Bud Marchant, Central Carolina Community College, serving as college president.
The board also includes: Albert Adcock, City of Sanford, 2013; Jeremy Hathcock, City of Sanford, 2012; Commission Chairman Richard Hayes, Lee County, 2012; Rep. Jimmy Love, North Carolina General Assembly, serving as the area's representative in the North Carolina House of Representatives; Jeff Moss, Lee County Schools, serving as superintendent; David Nestor, Lee County, 2013; and Donnie Oldham, Lee County, 2013.
One final appointment, with a term expiring in 2013, will be made by the Town of Broadway.
Adcock, Nestor and Oldham were appointed this year; the latter two are serving their first terms on the board.
The Lee County Economic Development Corp. is a nonprofit organization established to attract industry, enhance job opportunities and promote sound planning across Lee County. Funding is provided by the county, as well as the City of Sanford and Town of Broadway, the county's two municipalities.
