LEE COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION Southern Base of the Research Triangle Region NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, August 9, 2006 TV ANALYST CHRIS FITZSIMON TO REVIEW LEGISLATIVE SESSION SANFORD -- By the time the legislative "short session" ended late last month, the North Carolina General Assembly had approved bills to revamp economic development programs, combat illegal immigration, raise the minimum wage and even limit junk faxes. Political insider Chris Fitzsimon has monitored the 2006 legislative session and will provide his take on recent legislation when he addresses the Committee of 100 on Aug. 23 at Chef Paul's Cafe. The luncheon meeting begins at noon and is open to the public. Fitzsimon is director of NC Policy Watch, a liberal public policy organization created "to change the way our elected officials debate important issues facing North Carolina." NC Policy Watch is a project of the A.J. Fletcher Foundation in Raleigh, which also publishes Philanthropy Journal. The graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill also is a regular panelist on NC Spin, a syndicated political talk show appearing on more than a dozen television stations from Wilmington to Boone. Before moving directly into political advocacy, he covered government and politics at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, leaving that position in 1991 to become special assistant for policy and communications for then-House Speaker Dan Blue. When Fitzsimon appears locally, he will review the legislative session and discuss other issues of importance to the state. A question and answer period will follow. All Committee of 100 meetings are open to the public; the cost, including lunch, is $10 per person for members, $15 per person for guests. For reservations or information, contact Jane Haber at the Lee County Economic Development Corp., 919-774-8439 or info@lcedc.com.
