LEE COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION Southern Base of the Research Triangle Region NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday, October 12, 2006 "BACKSTAGE LEE" TO PROVIDE INSIDE LOOK AT COUNTY FOR REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS SANFORD -- Backstage Lee County, an annual "insiders" tour for local real estate professionals, will be held Nov. 16 and feature an in-depth look at education and the quality of life. This year's edition will begin at the Ernest and Ruby McSwain Extension Education and Agriculture Center on Tramway Road, with a look at cooperative extension programs that now go well beyond traditional farming. The bus tour then makes stops at West Lee Middle School, Central Carolina Hospital, Depot Park and Central Carolina Community College. Before returning to the McSwain Center for lunch and a final presentation on area recreation, the group also will visit the Town of Broadway and take an hour-long tour of Coty, one of the area's many expanding industries. At every stop, business and community leaders will answer questions and provide key information and insight designed to help real estate professionals explain the area to clients. Among the many leaders currently scheduled to address the tour are Dr. Matt Garrett, president of Central Carolina Community College; Bob Stevens, town manager of Broadway; David Montgomery, executive director of Downtown Sanford Inc.; and John Payne, director of Lee County Parks and Recreation. Bob Heuts, director of the Lee County Economic Development Corp., believes tours like this one are important, with people poised to move here and the community changing so quickly. "There are hundreds of new houses and apartments being constructed in the area," Heuts said. "People are coming here to be part of the Research Triangle Region. And military families will soon be coming to the region as part of the U.S. Army's Base Realignment and Closure plan. "All of us need to realize what we have now and what's on the horizon. We need to be ready to take advantage of the opportunity that's coming." Backstage Lee, including lunch, is free, but space is limited to 40 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Real estate professionals may make reservations by contacting Jane Haber at 919-774-8439 or info@lcedc.com. This year's event is sponsored by the Lee County Schools, Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce and Lee County Economic Development. The Lee County Economic Development Corp. is a nonprofit organization established to attract industry, enhance job opportunities and promote sound planning across Lee County. Funding is provided by the county, as well as the City of Sanford and Town of Broadway, the two county municipalities. -- 30 -- Media Contacts Bob Heuts, Director Jane Haber, Administrative Assistant 919-774-8439 (phone) 919-775-5410 (fax) info@lcedc.com (e-mail) More on the Web LCEDC Media Web: http://www.lcedc.com/media/ This release: http://www.lcedc.com/media/releases/nr101206.txt
